Child/Infant First Aid and CPR
NOTE:
The $70 fee covers the cost of both 2-year certifications and the processing through the American Heart Association.
Textbooks are available through Waimea Community Education and may be purchased for $20.00 (covers both these classes)
The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course runs from 8:00 am-11am and teaches the following general principles of first aid:
Medical emergencies: breathing problems, choking, diabetes, shock, seizures.
Injury emergencies: bleeding, mouth/tooth injuries, broken bones, sprains, burns.
Environmental emergencies: bites/stings, temperature-related injuries, poison.
*OPTIONAL topics: Eye injuries, fever, animal bites, suspected abuse. If you are interested in this optional instruction, please call the office at 885-1539 one week in advance of the class meeting so we may inform the instructor. In order for this optional topic to be taught there needs to be at least a 50% interest of the class participants.
This Heartsaver Pediatric CPR class runs from 12noon – 2 pm and focuses on cardio-pulmonary resuscitation for ages 0-adult. You will learn how to give CPR to an infant, child, AND adult. (The techniques are the same as those for an adult) The course also includes how to use a barrier device and how to phone for help.
*OPTIONAL AED (automated external defibrillator). If you are interested in this optional instruction (i.e., what an AED does and when and how to use it) please call the office at 885-1539 one week in advance of the class meeting so we may inform the instructor. In order for this optional topic to be taught there needs to be at least a 50% interest of the class participants.
Please note that choking is covered under the Pediatric and Adult First Aid classes.
